Changes to FT-Procedures and Foul Admin

Beginning next year (2023-2024 High School Basketball Season), high school basketball teams will shoot two free throws for common fouls when in the "bonus".  This change to Rule 4-8-1 eliminates the one-and-one scenario and sets new foul limits each quarter for awarding the bonus free throw.

The rule changes were approved by the NFHS Basketball Rules Committee at its annual meeting April 24-26 in Indianapolis.  The recommendations were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

Basketball referees hold a pivotal role in ensuring game integrity. However, the fast-paced nature of the sport demands not just mental sharpness but optimal physical health. Staying fit enables referees to track play movements, make real-time decisions, and position themselves strategically. A referee's physical condition directly impacts their effectiveness on the court. Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest aren't luxuries; they're necessities. By prioritizing health, referees not only enhance their performance but also prolong their careers, ensuring the game's continuity and fairness for all involved. For the love of the game, a referee's health is paramount.
