How to Referee High School Basketball
Want to work games this season? Just follow these 5 steps in order. Each colored button opens in a new window — finish that step, then come back here for the next one.
Before you start: Each button with the symbol opens a new tab so you never lose your place. When you finish that step, just close the new tab (or press your browser's Back button) to come back here.
Your path — at a glance
Register with the CIF State Office
This registers you with California's state office and pays for your official background check. Everyone does this first, and you only do it once.
Register with NCOA Arbiter Sports
This is how you'll receive your game and training assignments during the regular season. Keep your payment receipt — you'll need a screenshot of it in Step 4.
Create your Training account (right here)
Make a free account on this website (ncoanorth.com) so you can complete your 18 hours of CIF training.
Already have an account on this site? You can skip straight to Step 4.
Tell us you're ready — on your dashboard
Log in and open your dashboard, then click the “I'm ready for the season” button. Choose whether you're a Year 1 (new) or Returning / Veteran official, and confirm your dues are paid. That sends your request to NCOA leadership to verify.
Prefer email? You can still send your NCOA Arbiter payment screenshot to trainingaccess@ncoanorth.com instead.
We grant your training access
Once leadership verifies your dues, we'll unlock the full training platform for your account — as a Year 1 or Returning official. You'll be ready to start your 18 hours of CIF training. Welcome to the crew!
