It's built on the shoulders of the men and women who came before us — the officials who set the standard, mentored the us, and gave decades of their lives to the crews and the game we love.
Starting next week, NCOA North's leadership is proud to launch a new series here in The Locker Room. Every 2 weeks, we'll spotlight a notable official from our history — men and women who have hung up the whistle but whose influence still echoes across every court we work.
These are the officials who taught us how to manage a game, how to earn respect, and how to carry ourselves with integrity. Their stories deserve to be told, and their contributions deserve to be celebrated.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be sitting down with legends of our association, including Ray Savorn, Jim Jorgensen, Jay Almstrong, Andrea Barber and Marcia Barclay — with the hope of hearing from Ray Simmon and others as well. We'll ask about the games they'll never forget, the partners who shaped them, the lessons they learned the hard way, and the advice they'd pass on to the next generation lacing up for their first assignment.
