Welcome to NCOA North’s New Officials Class! We're thrilled to have you join us to learn the fundamentals of basketball officiating. This guide is designed to help you navigate the upcoming training. For any questions, feel free to reach out to:

Training Schedule
Key Dates to Remember:
- October 4-6: NCOA Fall Camp at CRC
- October 6: On-Court Training at Inderkum HS, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- October 15: General Body Meeting, Jesuit High School (Registration starts 5:30 PM)
- October 29: Online Training - Season Preparation, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- October 30: Scrimmage at Sheldon High School, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
How to Register and Begin Officiating
Registration
1. Register for the 2023-2024 season on Arbiter Sports.
2. Fee: $75 (season dues).
Getting Started
Contact your assigned partner at least a day before each game. Be on-site 30 minutes prior to tipoff and ensure all officiating gear is packed.
Uniform Requirements
- Shirt: Black and White Stripe
- Pants & Shoes: Black
- Whistle: Fox-40 Whistle (shop link, use discount code "Referee" for 25% off)

Pre-Game & Post-Game Essentials
Pre-Game: Verify equipment, check floor conditions, and communicate with the scorer’s table.
Post-Game Discussion: Conduct a brief review, focusing on improvements.
Key Terminology and Signals
Violations & Fouls
Violations: Whistle with arm up and open palm, then use the proper signal.
Fouls: Whistle with a raised closed fist, communicate clearly with "Color, Number, Consequence."
Game Management
Before Tip-Off: Verify uniform compliance, meet with scorers and timer, and ensure shot clock operation.
End of Game Procedures: Conduct a post-game review, log any incidents, and ensure final report submission.
NCOA Instructional Hours Requirement
2024-25 Season
NCOA requires all officials to complete the 2 regular season training items. To be eligible for a postseason assignment, 18 hours of instruction is required each season (6 hours of Regular Season + 12 hours of other training).
